Just a quickie chalk paint project. I just finished up a master bedroom for clients in NC. She needed a wastebasket for the side of her secretary, but we didn’t really find one when out shopping for a few items. When we got back, she said to me, “well I will just use this for now.” It was a very inexpensive and unfinished wood basket, so I said I would paint it and see if it will work. Nothing to lose as we already had chalk paint (Annie Sloan Old White) and wax. I was going for an old hand painted look, kinda French looking. I lightly sanded the edges and sides and went from there.
I enjoy quick projects like these. Chalk paint dries quickly, very quickly, so you can do smaller items like this in no time. I look forward to sharing this design project with you very soon. I hope you are enjoying your weekend. Laters, charisse
Where did you purchase the undecorated basket? Thank you
At Michaels. I would think that you could find similar baskets at Hobby Lobby,A.C. Moore Arts & Crafts or online. A quick google search led to these: http://www.vikingwoodcrafts.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=AAE Hope this helps. charisse
Michaels. You can google and there are multiple sources for wooden waste baskets in all sorts of interesting shapes.
You make it look easy; I’d never have the patience to tape off the lines–so impressive, Charisse! I’d like to a harlequin pattern on my deck–maybe you could do some deck-painting concepts other than plain stain?
Laurie, Actually I will probably do an article on deck ideas this fall. I had actually planned it for earlier, but with all the rain all summer, painting or staining a deck or patio was about impossible. Our deck needs attention and below that is a large concrete patio which is utterly boring. Thanks for the idea and reminder.
Wow, the wastebasket looks wonderful…you are a genius! S
Susan, Genius, not really, but glad you like it. Love doing these quick projects.
You are good!! I am dying to take on a project like this……chalk paint is so genius! Enjoy your Sunday.
Thanks Tina. I love, love chalk paint. I have made my own for a couple of projects where I needed a certain color, and it is amazing paint. Happy Sunday to you also.
