One Story Near the Coast

What an inviting and manageable outdoor area. I love the bluestone around the pool and the dry stacked stone with stone stairs leading to an L shaped covered porch.

If you look closely you can see the poorhouse at the far end of the pool. Unfortunately, while the pergola provides structure and welcome shade, we can’t see it very well!

Just a part of the kitchen, but a lovely cottage kitchen it is, yet with modern stainless steel commercial appliances. Don’t you just love the old butchen block island? The breakfast area is just beyond and past the refrigerator.

Another fireplace welcomes family and friends into the dining room. The dining room chairs are mismatched, yet work to create sophisticated cottage charm. Here the chair backs connect visually to the wicker chairs and sisal carpets in adjoining family and living rooms.

What an inviting room. The continuity of the use of white walls, red and white textiles, with brown (furniture, wood floors,Roman Shades and ceiling beams) ties all the room together. Sisal carpet is also used extensively and is so practical in beach homes.

Stained bead board in the same brown tones throughout the house, sets the stage for this comfortable study-sitting room. The use of the white shutters inside, operable for creating privacy, is a nice cottage touch.

The use of red with some black accents creates warmth and coziness in fairly good sized master bedroom. Bead board was used in this bedroom.

I really like this bedroom. Lots of patterns but harmonious because the texture and scale are varied, with blue bringing it all together. Love the old brass bed.

Bead board and ceiling beams in another bedroom, spacious and bright, with a wonderful couch for cuddling with kids, spouse or a good book from off the bookcase shelf. The use of red continues.

Here we see the ceilings in the bead board in an upstairs loft bedroom. Red ticking covers the mattresses with red in the stripped rugs. Don’t we all love these kinds of spaces? I remember as a youngster sleeping under the eaves and listening to the rain as it lulled us to sleep at the lake or bay house.

Gorgeous heart pine covered walls create one of the period cottage bathrooms. Bead board below, soft blue vanity cabinet and adorable “Pony Farm” towels. Notice the use of the shutters in here as well. Soak in the tub and watch a favorite TV show on the TV tucked up in the corner.
