Happy Sunday to you all. College graduation is tomorrow at UVA, and unfortunately will have to be moved inside. We have had intense thunderstorms during the days and days of rain. The James River is near cresting at flood stage. The sun has barely shown it’s face even when it was briefly not raining. Temperatures have been cool, in the 60’s, some low 70’s, and now I see that they are predicting mid week to be 97, and more rain !!!! What happened to 70’s, then 80’s, then 90’s in later summer? I have never seen my woods to be so jungle dense. For a bit the days of rain were a boon to the garden, but now everything is so saturated that flower blooms are waterlogged and falling off in a slimy mess, or remaining on the stems or vine but paling from their earlier intense spring colors. Oh the life in the gardens! I picked some to enjoy in the house before the rain did them in, mixing them with some Sunflowers and Babies Breath kbj brought home after a trip. Things will dry up, and after some deadheading, the roses will bloom again, and hopefully there is not too much more bud drop. I took these photos to hopefully cheer those also in the too much rain doldrums. Also below the photos is a mesmerizing video about beauty and the power of concentration, that needs no words. I have never seen anything like this in my life. I hope you enjoy……..Tomorrow I will post about a complete house renovation and rebuild in New England.
“Some people are always grumbling because roses have thorns; I am thankful that thorns have roses.” Alphonse Karr
” I don’t think there is anything on this planet that trumpets life more than the sunflower. For me that’s because of the reason behind it’s name. Not because it looks like the sun but because it follows the sun. During the course of the day, the head tracks the journey of the sun across the sky. A satellite dish for the sunshine. Wherever light is, no matter how weak, these flowers will find it. And that’s such an admirable thing. And such a lesson in life.” Calendar Girls movie 2003
