About The Painting
Very rarely do I find good images of Newfoundlands in motion. I was very pleased when this one came along. For this painting I wanted to capture the feeling of movement I could imagine the dog having as he is coming toward us. I concentrated very carefully on how I applied the brushstrokes. My goal was to keep them swift and concise so they would contain the same active energy as the dog, and describe how the fur would be moving as a result of his running. The addition of the cart brings balance to the composition. It’s shape and placement add variety and interest to the painting.
