Once or twice a week I would like to post about a home that we can look at, hopefully appreciating many of the details room by room. By looking at these homes, along the way we may discover a thing or two about our own style and decor choices, and perhaps even discovering something in ourselves that is attracted to a particular color, architecture, setting, fabric, or interior and exterior finishes. There is a great deal to be learned by looking at and studying good architecture and interior design details, as they teach us how to utilize and integrate it into our own home design choices, no matter the size of a dwelling. Good design is good design, whether 100 sq feet, or as in this case approximately 11,000 sq feet. It is so beautifully built and crafted it deserves an audience, so lets take a look at this St. Helena, California home.

A view back towards the house. The lights that follow the stone path back to the house are a part of a landscape that perfectly sets off the home’s stucco architecture. This home transitions from the inside to outside and back again seamlessly. A Napa home that Italy would welcome with open arms as true to the style in form, function and livability.

View from the kitchen back towards the living room. The window ledge is right down to the counter, letting in lots of light. The stone floors look antique, with a built in patina.

I really like the stone counter choice, and the cabinetry is so right for this kitchen. No white kitchen here! Details that make this room so beautiful…..the lamp on the island, the hood over the stove , cooktop with drawers below, the niches to the left and right of the hood, and the beams.

The far end of the kitchen, with a huge hutch stained to match the post and beams. The plaster work on the walls looks like suede, ties in with the stone counters and rug beneath the small table. I love the scale on this table. Great place for fruit to grab as you run out the door. A glimpse of the living room can be seen from this angle. Notice the tapestry that hangs over the sofa, perfectly sized for the room.

The study, with fireplace, stained crown molding, a desk for two, and color and pattern choices that are so right for the architecture. The big screen TV is hardly noticeable as such because when off , it reflects the colors, and seems to take on the hue of the drapes. Done right, this room does not scream TV, or office, but just says….come in and be comfortable.

The master bedroom, although large, does not feel uncomfortably so because of the wall color choice, the stained wood trim, light patterned carpeting, with another colorful one on top that picks up the color in the bedding and drapes. The fireplace is stone and the huge mirror over the mantel is a perfect addition, reflecting light back into the room..

This bedroom is scaled wonderfully. The low pitch to the planked cathedral ceiling, the stain color complimenting the bedding linen choices. Warm colors, very inviting room.

One usually sees leather or solid colors in most media rooms, but here they continued with the soft, warm colors and boy does the seating look comfortable as well. There is a lot of pattern going on, but it works because the designer varied the scale of the prints as well as texture, and the room retains the Tuscan feel seen throughout the rest of the main living areas.

The carvings in the top arch of the double doors are intricate and look time worn. They are set into the stone wall which appears to be mortorless. The workmanship is beautiful.

Even in the exercise room, the warm colors continue. The mirrors are framed with the same timbers as the ceiling!

Wood and beamed ceiling, continuing the warm wood tones and colors to a covered area, complete with fireplace. Stone floors are the same as the outdoor patio and pool area, and in the same tones as the kitchen floors……

A view from underneath the shade of the pergola past the infinity edged pool to the mountains and valley below…..

Notice the coloring of the stone and pool edging/coping tie directly into the stucco color of the home. It is further complimented by the clay planters and the chaise lounge cushion fabric. Even the green of the cedars is muted blending in perfectly…….

Even the lighting in this evening image is perfect. The stone surrounding the pool brings to mind the streets and sidewalks of Tuscan villages.
I hope you enjoyed this Napa home. It has 6 bedrooms and 8 baths, 15 rooms total on 3 floors. It was built in 2002, has 4 fireplaces. This home exhibits elegance, warmth, exacting craftsmanship, and beautifully done interior. It respects the California light, in the gardens, in the choice of interior colors, finishes, and fabrics. At a bit more than 11,000 sq ft., it exudes warmth, and welcome, a difficult challenge in such a large footprint, and one which it has achieved exceedingly well. Although we did not see every room, the ones we saw flowed beautifully, and I suspect we would see the same throughout the remainder of the home. Thank you for visiting. cheers! charisse

That’s my dream home. Now all I need is a winning lottery ticket so I can purchase it and invite all my friends for an Italian dinner on the terrace.
I could live in it as well, and I am in line right behind you for a lottery ticket!
