Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween to you all! It’s been a long time, too long, so let’s just get back to it. These last many months have been filled with multiple intensive design projects and so much more. I am thankful to you all for your concern, and your continued support for this blog. You have no idea how much it means to me. Welcome also to my new readers! Let’s start today with a look at Halloween around my home. I hope you and your families have a safe and fun filled day.

This sweet face adorns a small iron planter at my front door. I absolutely adore her, and she gets decked out depending on the season.

I just planted the pansies this week. Their happy faces, along with the unseasonable weather, make it feel like a competition between the Halloween holiday and spring.

Frogie and his flowers and pumpkins sit on the other side of the entry. He usually wears an orange bow, but I forgot to put it on him before taking photos.

I have had this witch, scarecrow and a ghost (other photos) since forever. I like that they are friendly faces, and I look forward to unpacking them every year. This year they keep me company on my kitchen island.

This year we were able to enjoy fresh organic produce from an amazing small farm not far from us. All the squash, pumpkins and gourds come from this farm. I have so enjoyed the variety of shapes, textures, and colors.

After I washed them, I placed them on my cake plate. When the sun comes thru the window, the colors were so vibrant, and it all makes me smile every time.

A few small autumn flowers added some contrast.

I have already cooked a few of these pretty squashes, and they tasted as good as they looked.

My favorite look. I am enchanted by the stems on the pumpkins…..they bend, twist and have a wonderful artful form separate from the pumpkins. I plan on keeping several, drying them, and using them to make a few fabric pumpkins.

Mr. Scarecrow stands among the arrangement. I could really use a full sized one to keep the deer from eating my gardens right now.

And here is my friendly ghost and missy witch sharing the pumpkin patch. I ended up moving them to their own place on the island, which you saw in an earlier photo.

Gotta love that smile.

So there you have it. I am surprised that the pumpkins have lasted as long as they have. The  weather has been crazy this entire spring, summer and now autumn.

Look how green it still is here in my woods…..in late October no less. The tulip trees are the only ones that just dropped their leaves. The others are starting to turn very dull colors from the warmth and lack of rain. Never, never, have I experienced an autumn like this. When I was younger, my birthday in mid October was close to peak color. Not this year. Not even close.

I still have flower pots blooming, although, because of lack of rain, they need watering, I have begun the sad task of pulling annuals out of the ground. I have had to continue watering hydrangeas (in full green leaf still) as they were severely drooping. The pot of impatiens in this photo is going to get pulled today.

It feels so good to be back writing again. I have so much to share with you, so I hope you will come back and visit again. Next, a deck project that seemed to take all summer to complete. Well, actually, it did! laters, charisse

Hi Charisse. Happy belated birthday! I was so thrilled to see your blog again! It is always such a treat to hear from you! I truly appreciate that you take the time to share your gifts and talents with us. It brings a lot of joy to me! Your decorations are beautiful. I love the fall colors! It has been very warm here in Asheville North Carolina as well. I am still wearing shorts and sandals around the house. The leaves are beautiful here in the mountains! My knockout roses are still blooming. The temperature drops significantly at night. This is such a fantastically funny fall!
    Thx again for sharing.

    • Hello Victoria, Thank you for the belated wishes. I am so happy to be back, and so appreciative of your email. today was crazy warm again, 85 like yesterday. I had to run the A/C while driving to the supermarket. Our leaves are finally starting to change, and the breezes are blowing them off just as quickly. Asheville is such a lovely place…wish I could leaf peep there. Thanks again for writing.

  2. I’ve missed your blog and so am thrilled to see it once again. See you very soon.

  5. Welcome back! We missed you. Happy Halloween! Happy Fall.

  6. Great to see your blog and hear from you. Where do you find the energy to do all the stuff you do. I hardly have the energy to feed the dogs these days. Love all your fall decorations. Love the sweet smiling ghost too. Hope you had a nice birthday. Miss you. Hi to Keith!

    • Hi Susan, When it is cool outside I have so much more energy then during the dog days of summer. I am looking forward to putting the gardens to rest for a while, as it was almost too much this year. I have always enjoyed Halloween, but miss that we don’t get trick or treaters out here in the country.
