- “Architecture and design are not only about buildings and structure, but also about people. It is a huge responsibility when one is involved in a design project, no matter the size, because the consequences go beyond just putting a room or rooms together. One must recognize that there is more beyond theory and absolute rules. There are people. I feel strongly that there shouldn’t be any hard and fast rules in design, just general rules to use as guidelines or touchstones along the way in the design process. Every person has preferences, desires, personalities,, perhaps even quirks in design sensibilities that should be respected and what adds up to making clients not just elated with the results, but experiencing joy, comfort and function that is specific to them and the way they and their families live. My goal is to provide the backdrop and setting to enhance YOUR lifestyle, not inserting my ideas as an absolute, only as a suggestion, with the goal of arriving at rooms that are alive and wide awake while at the same time cozy and very comfortable both aesthetically and emotionally.
- My clients have typically hired me to be their guidance in residential design from before construction, during, and until the last detail is completed, as well as after, to make sure all is signed, sealed, delivered, and that your home is the vision we worked together to achieve, allowing your home and you to feel compatible, functional and comforting in the best possible way.
- assist with picking/assessing a home plan or developing/fine tuning a floor plan or even individual rooms, either when remodeling or rearranging. I personally have thousands of home and floor plans at my immediate disposal.
- develop an interior and exterior color palette. An interior color palette choice becomes especially important when you already have cabinetry, furniture and fabric, because paint undertones play heavily into what will work. One also needs to consider how light, both interior and exterior light, influences color choices as well.
- shop for furniture and fabrics……I can coordinate this on line, as well as rearranging and repurposing your current furniture, with the end result towards achieving a cohesive look. Colors, textures, architectural details should always connect space to space, room to room, and even inside to outside.
- assistance with picking art, shopping for and arranging object d’art and/or wall art, and or arrange what you have already, into vignettes.
- answer your inquires related to design dilemmas. e.g. rug sizes, furniture placement, suggested window treatments, moldings, really any question you have where another person might be able to add a view or a suggestion, to either compliment or offer a starting point for your vision that might also work, while respecting your own personal design aesthetic and goals.
- Home staging
- Full room e-Design. I especially enjoy doing nursery’s and children’s rooms.
- Kitchens: if you are redoing, repurposing, completely remodeling, I can help you decide if your ideas will translate to a kitchen space that will truly function the way you and your family lives. For example, certain kitchen setups either encourage participation in the cooking process or not. Which is your preference? These are just a few of the questions I ask to get you going towards the kitchen that will work as you dream it will. I can offer suggestions and sources.
